How to get good results

Want these rules applied to your own chart?

Searching the sources tells you what the classics say. A reading tells you which of those rules are actually active in your chart, and when. Readings on Vedic Astro Bot cite the passages they lean on, so you can trace any claim back to this library.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Jyotish source library?

It is a searchable collection of passages from classical Vedic astrology texts. Each passage is stored with its book, author, and verse reference, along with a plain English summary and a set of topic tags. It is the same body of classical material that Vedic Astro Bot's readings cite, so you can check the classical basis of a rule for yourself.

How is this different from a book or verse library?

Jyotish Sources is built for following a question across classical texts. Search a planet, house, yoga, or topic to find individual passages across the available books, then explore related passages through their tags. Entries bring together source references, published translations, and commentary where available, with short summaries to help you decide what to read. The search also shows how it interpreted your terms. It complements reading a complete text chapter by chapter.

Which texts can I search?

You can search Brihat Jataka, Jaimini Sutras, Phaladeepika. The library lists the available entries and publication progress for each book. More texts are added over time.

How does the search work?

You type a question in plain English and the search translates it into the library's own vocabulary. Common words are mapped to Sanskrit terms, so 'sun' finds Surya and 'aspect' finds Drishti, and house or domain words become filters such as marriage or wealth. Anything left over runs as a full text search. The page shows you exactly how each word was interpreted, so you can adjust your wording when a search misses.

Do I need an account to search the sources?

No. The source search is free and open, with no sign up and no birth details required. An account is only needed if you want the passages applied to your own chart through a reading or a chat.

Why does a passage sometimes contradict another one?

Classical Jyotish is not a single voice. Jaimini and Parashara traditions weigh the same chart differently, and commentators disagree with each other. Each entry records its tradition and source type so you can see who is speaking. Reading two conflicting rules side by side is the point of a source library rather than a flaw in it.
